Baby Shower!

June 4, 2005

Linda Lowe

So sneaky Linda managed to get off an order to BabiesRUs without alerting our suspicions. She had a field-day. She ordered the Pack-N-Play, sheets for it, large burp pads, the Bjorn baby pack and a bath toy for our little princess. She was so excited! So was Joe!

Joe gets real excited about using
his knife. Should I be worried?

Lori, if you look really close you
can see confusion. Big burp pads.

They don't bite. Sheets.

Bobbing sprites for the bath!!

She goes in there? Will she fit?

Yeah... instructions! Pack-N-Play construction.

And, more instructions...

Almost there

Joe presents, the Pack-N-Play!!

Linda Carter

All the grandmas have baby fever, and Joe's mom is no exception! She is having way too much fun! We received a surprise Amazon shipment two weeks ago. It included a changing table pad, the cross-terrain backpack, bottles, and the baby monitor set. The duck is something she gave us while in Laguna. I LOVE the duck! The bunny is from the other set of grandparents (see below) but bunny wanted a ride REAL BAD.

LOVE the duck!

What's up doc?!

Lindi

Joe's grandma got in on the action, with the stroller, mattress, and the Pack-N-Play. We had just received the Pack-N-Play from Linda L., so rather than put one upstairs and one downstairs (which we discussed), we decided to take it back to BabiesRUs, and pick up as much of the little non-glamorous necessities as we could (and items that had become unavailable). It was a shopping frenzy! We got burp bibs and outlet covers, and bottle brushes, and diaper disposal sacks (like doggie poopie bags) just to name a few things (list below). We also picked up the diaper bag and a baby bath. It was fun and we felt really good getting those bits out of the way. Hope you enjoy what you got us Lindi!

Again with the knife!

Its a mattress for the crib. The crib, Joe.

Joe pulls the stroller out of the box.

Joe puts the stroller together.

Joe takes the stroller downstairs to
show Linda L.

Joe loses his grip on the stroller
and Jean runs for her life.

Was a Pack-N-Play (right) is now a pile of
goodies (left)!

Joe emptied our loot onto the floor.

Rather than go over the list of stuff we got, I photoed the gift receipt. Whehew (does a little dance)! Thank you Lindi!

Lindi and Linda Carter

While we were in Laguna, Joe's mom and grandmom showered little Steve with cute little baby clothes. Linda C. brought bags of fun stuff with her from Vegas (where she'd been stockpiling them) and Lindi took Joe and I on a shopping spree. Following are the results of their uncontained splurging.

Clothes clothes and more clothes!

Hooded towel with matching bib and burp cloth,
sleepers, dresses, pajamas, hang-ten t-shirt,
blankets... This kid doesn't know how good
she's got it.

Sharon Lowe

Sharon has been on a creative tear since we told her Steve was coming. Actually, since we told her Steve was a she (had to know if the baby needed boy things or girl things, after all). She told me I wouldn't be able to get it all on the shower page, and not to worry. WHATEVER! So we received a box last week FULL of stuff! And its all here! Some of it is clothing you could tell she couldn't resist while out doing weekly shopping. Also included were knitted sweaters, blankets... Well, see for yourself...

Clothes, blankets, and bibs galore!

Here is a close-up of some of the outfits. The
longer you look, the more you see.

Here are more. The overalls on the right are
precious!

Sharon made this blanket. Its hearts like that
all over, and its huge!

The two sweaters (left is a dress-type sweater)
were hand knit (or crocheted?) Not sure, but
amazing!

Joe says if you look close you can
see his eyeball. I looked. I couldn't.

HA! Anyway, Sharon was talking the other day about looking into selling stuff at public-market type fairs to support her creative habits. Raise your hands everyone who thinks she should. ME! ME!

Jane and John Haley

Aunt Jane and Uncle John stopped by for a visit late May, and everyone got little gifts, including (or especially) Steve. They included a doll, a care kit (with thermometer, snot-sucker, etc.) sunglasses, bunny slippers, and the softest blanket in the whole world.

Her future is so bright...

Aren't these the cutest?! And they're cuddly!

Ken and Janice Lowe

Dad and Janice have been sending us little baby outfits/toys/blankets since the announcement was made, and I had some of them packed away.

The gifts include white and green duck pajamas and a duck onesie, and an ASU onesie and socks! They were in Phoenix a few months ago and stopped by the student book store. How hysterical!!! Beneath the clothes you can see a green blanket that Janice made while they wintered in Mexico. Its very cute.

Go ASU !

Brianna Rusanowski

Brianna (my god-daughter and junior bridesmaid) made Steve a stuffed animal named Baby Bear. She dressed her in shades of blue. Bri's mother Janet went out of her way to add pink bows and bloomers. She did put the nix on the internal music box though.

Hello in there Baby Bear!

Look! A slot in the pants for her tail!

The shirt says Chicks Rule!

Baby Bear came with her own birth certificate !

Thank you Bri, Baby Bear is adorable!

Kate Larsen

Kate Larsen sent a box of goodies last week, with Steve's first reading material! And photo albums! There were also some cute little outifts in the box. =)

Peapod the little rabbit with a big
heart. It came with a book about
Peapod.

The Incy Wincy Spider! Funny, I
don't remember this story being so
long.

These fabric-covered books are photo albums!

The little dress has watermelons on it. It is
sooo cute!

Melinda and Lyle Rusanowski

When Lyle and Melinda came by with the baby furniture, they left a couple of bags of goodies for Steve!  Lots of cute and useful stuff (including a Giants Jersey - who is the fan?!)

Bath stuff, Tylenol, and rattle!

Hooded towel and washcloths!

Minnie the Mouse outfit

Winnie the Pooh

Giants Baseball jersey and shorts

Bunny onesie, bib, and pants

More onesies!  Can never have enough!

Thank you Lyle and Melinda!  For the shower gift AND the baby furniture!

Jennifer and Kevin Mayo and Laurie Kestler

Yesterday I heard a knock at the door and waddled over just in time to see a little man in a brown uniform scurrying back to his truck. He's done this before. He never waits for you to actually answer the door; just run-walks back to his vehicle. I think he must be on the lam or something.  Can't let them see my face.  Must run.  Must... find.... cover....  ANYWAY.  What to my wondering eyes did I find when I opened the door?  A HUGE box with a car seat inside.  When Joe got home from work, we OPENED it.

The box left by the disappearing
delivery dude.... From the Mayos!

I know they have warnings on the
bags. He can't read them.

Lori, Joe had me take this photo
just for you.

Joking aside, I am SO glad for this.
Now they'll let us take her home!

Thank you Jenn and Kevin!

P.S. Those of you that know Kevin, probably know that he stationed in Iraq right now. If you feel like sending a care package or dropping him a note (he and his fellow guardsmen have a website), let me know and I'll get you the info.

P.S.S. Joe and I are going to his family reunion this week (in Laguna Beach - sun and waves here we come!).  We figure this could be our last vacation sans Bebe for a couple of decades.  Stay tuned for further updates in about a week.  Until then, imagine me sprawled out in my pregnant glory in a chaise lounge. Kind of scary, but fun at the same time, isn't it?!

Linda Lowe

Linda L. joined the fray today, pulling a blanket out of her bag of tricks (actually, its a small suitcase). Anyway, I knew she had been working on one, but after her surgery she hadn't been up for knitting. I guess she finished it under my nose. She's been feeling better the last few weeks, by the way. She's even gained 5 pounds.

This is awesome up close. Very intricate, with a
seashell pattern

Cindy Valentine

The first item we received was from Cindy, Joe's aunt. Its a rubber ducky set of towels and (my favorite part) curtain hooks that spell "Rub a Dub Dub".  I love how the bottom of the towels take on the shape of the duck.

Rubber Ducky, you're the one...

Lori and Matt Vansteenwyk

Lori and Matt sent us the Fisher Price Kick and Play Bouncer, which is a little chair into which we can strap our bambina while we're cooking/showering/recuperating. It makes noises and has flashing lights that are activated by her movements.

The Kick and Play Bouncer!

If a=c and d=b, where does this go?

Doesn't that look like fun?!  It lights up!  She can
squeal and kick and it likes it!

Linda Carter

Joe's mom sent us the Wendy Bellisimo 'Sir Leapsalot' crib set we had our eyes on, and a Precious Moments travel baby bassinet. Of all the crib sets we saw, this was the coolest, because it had different textured materials and patterns. The baby bassinet will be terribly handy because, although the nursery is right off our room, who really wants to get up 4 times a night if they don't have to? I can wheel her right up to my bed!

Sir Leapsalot!

Precious Moments Bassinet.

It lives up to its name.

Ken and Janice Lowe

Ken and Janice brought this cute little bunny and outfit with them when they visited last month. They found a Laura Ashley outfit with little red cherries on it for little Steve.

Isn't it cute?!

Justin and Stephanie Crawford

Friday after work Joe and I received this package from Justin and Stephanie in Fairbanks. Its a collection of cool items for Le Bebe. PS guys, I need your new address!!

To cast her first handprint!!!

A dolphin that measures tub temp.

Necessary snot removal materials.

Stuffed penguin, giggles like a child.

And last but not least, BUTT PASTE!  I've heard
this stuff ROCKS

Welcome to Jean and Joe's Virtual Baby Shower!

Because our friends and families are so far away, Lori asked me if she could organize a "virtual" baby shower for us. Until she suggested it, I hadn't put much thought into it, but needless to say, the idea was welcomed excitedly!

The way it works is this: Joe and I have registered for little person items at Babies R Us (registry # 35005413).  Things can be purchased and shipped directly from Babies R Us to our new home, or can be sent to us directly (contact me if you need our newest address - as of 04/20/05). When we open the baby shower gifts, we will take photos and post them here so everyone can share in the experience.
