Today was a big day in the development of the peanut. She finally crawled! She has been on the verge of it for so long we were about to give up. But alas...

January 16, 2006

I thought I would be able to post all of December/January's photos AND Christmas today, but I also updated Jody's site, and MAN this stuff takes a while. So today, just day-to-day stuff. I'll do a Christmas page later this week.

Does Sydney like bananas?

So December brought with it clouds and rain and generally "brr" weather. Luckily for Sydney, she has a variety of cute all-weather clothes. Luckily for me, she tolerates my dressing her in them.

My little cub.

I'm not sure if she can move in that.

Joe brings Syd inside from the cold.

Joe took the following photo because it was too good to pass up. Syd went down for a nap, and just happened to by laying by her name on the blanket her great-grandma Lindi gave her. This was after a hard day's work (or half day, playing) at Joe's office.

Shortly before Christmas, Paul and his wife Bev took Joe, Sydney and me to the Macaroni Grill for our office Christmas party. Yes, an office of three can still "boogie on down" over Italian. While wantingly perusing the desert menu at the MG (they have tiramisu), I was convinced to take the plunge and try a cow by-product. Realizing that if my little experiment failed I would be up alll night, I dove in and zealously scarfed down a slice of my favorite sweet.

Oh, ps, it went well, and I'm:

back on the Diary Wagon! Woohoo!

Random photo to follow. See last month's entry for relevance.

I caught Shitty Kitty peeking over the fence at
Tric. They had a stare-down for HALF AN HOUR.

Per Sharon's request, we took Sydney to visit Santa at the mall this year. Sharon picked out her outfit. The tights were an after-market accessory. Syd had a little accident at the mall, and we had to improvise. So we rushed into Baby Gap and picked out these darling winter tights. I love the butt! We waited in line for like an hour. It was too much for Sydney, who needed a nap mid-way through. The photos turned out okay. Her dress ended up hiked up over her waist, and she looks a little apprehensive about the bearded man that's holding her. After they took the photo I heard "Santa" yell to the photographer, "So is that it? Can I go now?" Magical. I have a few wallet sized photos if anyone wants one. Just email me.

Christmas photos - new tights.

The excitement was too much for her.

So Linda L. came to town December 18. She checked in with her doctors while she was here, and got the thumbs up. Linda C. came a few days later. They had a wonderful time playing with Sydney. They share very well.

Over New Year's heavy rains began to fall here in California, causing flooding, mud-slides, and general chaos. Our area came out pretty unscathed. The trees out front lost some little limbs, and nearby parking lots and roads had some localized flooding. John and I drove to old-town Sacramento New Year's Eve and watched the river pushing at the banks. It was pretty awesome. We also drove by what looked like a park under water (there were roofs peaking out the top of the water - like park sheds). Unfortunately I didn't have my camera that day. So here are the few pictures I did get.

Tree limbs in the front yard.

Stupid human tricks. Joe plays with his
tootsie-pop.

John worked on my car while he was here. The last place we took it told me I had a plugged radiator (estimate to replace (i.e. fix) $500). So John replaced that as my Christmas gift. Unfortunately the shop was wrong - the radiator was plugged, but that wasn't the source of the leak. The leak got progressively worse and was practically pouring out by the first week of January. As John drove out of town he stopped by my office to top off the anti-freeze and leave me with spares. Not a hearty endorsement for the safety of the vehicle. So we took it to the dealer after John left. It was the water pump. But I forgot how handy it is to have John around. He replaced the radiator, the rear window struts and latch, some lights, detailed the interior, um - tons of stuff that sounded good even though I can't remember it all.

John searches for the leak in my car before I
leave for work in the morning, and tops it off.

Despite some apprehension on John's part when I first shoved a squawking Sydney into his arms, he warmed right up to her.

Syd reads her new book from Uncle John.

Syd is very close to crawling.

Syd had her 6 month check up the first week of January (we dropped the car off at the car-doc on the way to her appointment). She is healthy, although still a little peanut. She's 13 pounds, 9 ounces (7th percentile) and 25 inches (16th percentile). The doc predicts she will just be a very small human being. But she told us to go ahead and feed her orange and green vegetables, twice a day. That is turning into a lot of fun. Her first dish was acorn squash (home-made - nothings too good for my little girl). She HATED it. Joe finally put the spoon down and refused to give her any more. Unfortunately, I could never quite capture the look of total distaste on her face, although I tried my best. I refused to give up however, and after a couple of days she was eating it, although not totally enjoying it. She liked the subsequent prunes and green beans much better.

Syd loves the rice cereal. She's like a bird. Tweet.

Joe and Syd both find the squash distasteful.

Three faces of acorn squash.

The prunes were MUCH better received.

And while they were a little tart...

She lapped them up!

January 11, 2006

I know its been a while. I have a TON of Christmas related stuff to post. But alas (you know what's coming, right?)... Sydney has to go to bed soon, so I only have time to post this one thing. More by Friday. Also, this may be really slow if you have a slow connection.

Joe got goofy just as I figured out our
camera does video. Who knew?!

Oh, and before I go, one more thing. Linda C. didn't know our camera records sound. I didn't either. I'm still not sure how she did it, but (she's either talking to Sydney or the dog) voila:

Night all!
