Linda had surgery to remove her tumors on Friday December 10th. The surgery took about 6.5 hours. The doctor said he got all of the tumors and found no surprises while doing the surgery. Linda sailed through surgery like a champ, and has been recovering very very well. She has finally been given her own room. For those of you wondering, she is at:
University of California,
Davis Medical Center
2315 Stockton Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95817
Room 8783-2 (Davis Tower) 916.734.2011
I will put up a regular entry in the next couple of days.
November 10, 2004
Mom had some more scans done last week, and a visit with her oncologist today. The tumors have continued to decrease in size, so much so that they don't even show up on a PET scan anymore (still on the CT scan, so they're still there). No new spots, no new concerns. What does that mean? Surgery! December 10th she is scheduled to have those pesky little buggers removed. Six weeks after that she'll do some more chemo.
Thought I'd actually stick a Linda related entry in here. Its been a while.
Linda had a CT Scan a couple of weeks ago, and we finally got the
results back recently. The scans showed that the two tumors have
decreased in size by about 30 percent! Which is pretty cool news.
After a few more treatments they'll do another scan, and if it continues
to decrease as they hope it will, the surgeon will be able to remove
them!
While she still has a ways to go, this is the first good news we've
gotten in a while. It makes all the bad stuff seem a little
easier to swallow.
Sorry to make you all wait so long for the Linda page, but there
really hasn't been much to report. We've spent a lot of time the
last two months at UC Davis: test, test, consultation, test, consultation,
consultation, prep, consultation, test. I may have missed
a few tests and consultations, but you get the idea.
This week it finally happened. They began TREATMENT, which consisted
of three pretty rotten, pretty long days down on the campus. But
the good news is she's started. She's tired, and not really her
perky, food-making, kitchen-cleaning self, but so far so good.
Unbelievably, she's still focused on the wedding:
"Mom, do you need some water?" "You still need a petticoat." "I know, but do you need some water?" "And don't we need to go back to the florist's? Where are we having the flowers delivered?" "Mom..." "Do you have the list of arrival times typed up yet?" "Here's some water. You have an hour. Drink it or suffer the consequences."
That is pretty much how it works.
Now she is off for two weeks (except for, of course: test, test, consultation). Yes, I'm not kidding.
Thank you for checking in on her, and please keep coming back. I've
been trying to convince her to write her own updates, like Joe and
I do, but... well, to be frank I think she thinks we're crazy. Maybe...
You can email her here, but please don't send jokes (unless they're really really good, in which case you can send them to me) because she won't be spending much time checking her account. Mail, that she'd appreciate.
